Suspect in girlfriend's death denied motion

The man accused of killing his girlfriend last year in Maries County had a motion denied Tuesday to allow him to move to another jail to be closer to his family.

Maries County Sheriff Chris Heitman said the motion by Terry Fritz, 40, was to move him to Texas County.

The case itself has been moved to that county on a change of venue, but Fritz remains held in Maries County on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Kinga Gillibrand, 35.

The killing is believed to have happened around June 8 in the home the couple shared in the Meta area.

Although Fritz was charged in Gillibrand’s death, authorities could not find her body.

In November, deer hunters found human remains on property that Fritz had access to.

Heitman said at the time, and still maintains, that he’s confident the remains are those of Gillibrand.

“We still do not have results back on the remains,” he said Tuesday. “I am upset it is taking this long.”

Heitman said the jury trial is expected to start in August.
