Wilson: Baptist Convention had right to challenge Foundation changes

In one of his last acts as a Cole County circuit judge, Paul Wilson ruled last Friday the Missouri Baptist Convention has a legal interest in the Baptist Foundation's operations.

Wilson's 37-page order addressed only Count VII of the MBC's suit against the Foundation and four other church agencies.

In its online publication, The Pathway, the MBC said Wilson's ruling meant it had "won a sweeping legal victory in its effort to recover the Missouri Baptist Foundation."

And Steven Mathis, the Foundation's executive vice president, said in a statement Monday evening: "The Foundation disagrees with many of the court's rulings."

Both sides said they still are studying Wilson's 37-page judgment.
