City surtax measure put on hold pending new developments

In a unanimous vote of the Jefferson City Council, a bill that would break the surtax repayment agreement between the city and Cole County was put on hold, at least for another two weeks.

Before the meeting, Jefferson City officials distributed a letter to the media dated Dec. 27, 2010, from Cole County Collector Larry Vincent to Mayor John Landwehr.

In the letter, Vincent asked the council to hold off on the bill to rescind the city's surtax repayment agreement with the county because there may be potential for a new development in the next few weeks.
