Trial set to SE Missouri man on sex charges

BENTON, Mo. (AP) - A southeast Missouri man who is a registered sex offender will face trial in August on several felonies.

The Southeast Missourian reports that 50-year-old James Borders of Zalma will stand trial in Scott County on Aug. 1. He's accused of having sex with a person younger than 14.

Borders is charged with 10 counts of first-degree statutory sodomy and 10 counts of child molestation. He has been charged as a prior offender.

The Southeast Missourian reports that Borders was convicted in 1987 of sodomy for molesting a 5-year-old girl.

If convicted in August, Borders faces a potential life sentence.
