Outgoing head of public defenders has new challenge

Robinson retirement allows new outlook, reflections

Today is J. Marty Robinson's last day both as the Missouri Public Defender system's director and as a state employee -- although he will continue his work in the Missouri National Guard.

Catherine "Cat" Kelly begins as new director following a ceremony this afternoon.

Tuesday is the first day Robinson, 53, qualifies for retirement under state government's "80-and-out" policy, where any employee can retire when their age plus years of service equal at least 80.
