JCPD issues advisory seeking young girl April 17, 2014

Tornado watch continues; snow forecast

A tornado watch is in effect for much of Central Missouri including Jefferson City until 4 a.m. Monday, meaning the possibility exists that severe thunderstorms may develop and produce tornadoes.

A flood watch is also in effect for the area until 4 a.m. Monday, meaning heavy rain may produce flooding along rivers and streams.

The National Weather Service has issued the following hazardous weather outlook statement for portions of Eastern and Central Missouri for Sunday night and Monday.

SUNDAY NIGHT

AN OUTBREAK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IS ONGOING AND IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE INTO THE EARLY MORNING HOURS OF MONDAY. FOR AREAS MAINLY NORTH OF INTERSTATE 70...LARGE HAIL IS EXPECTED TO BE THE MAIN SEVERE THREAT. FOR AREAS ALONG AND SOUTH OF THE INTERSTATE 70 CORRIDOR...THE SEVERE THREATS WILL INCLUDE LARGE HAIL...DAMAGING WINDS...AND POSSIBLY A FEW TORNADOES.

THE COMBINATION OF SATURATED GROUND OR PARTIALLY FROZEN GROUND WITH EXISTING AND MELTING SNOW COVER AND A PERSISTENT AREA OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL RESULT IN AN INCREASED RISK FOR FLOODING FROM STREAMS AND SMALL RIVERS TONIGHT FOR AREAS IN NORTHEAST AND CENTRAL MISSOURI AND WEST CENTRAL ILLINOIS.

ENOUGH COLD AIR WILL SPILL IN BEHIND THE FRONT TO POSSIBLY CHANGE THE PRECIPITATION OVER TO FREEZING RAIN...SLEET...OR SNOW AFTER MIDNIGHT FOR PARTS OF NORTHEAST AND CENTRAL MISSOURI AND WEST CENTRAL ILLINOIS. ONLY SLIGHT ACCUMULATIONS OF SNOW OR ICE ARE EXPECTED.

MONDAY

SNOW AND SOME SLEET IS EXPECTED FOR MONDAY MORNING MAINLY FOR AREAS IN CENTRAL...EAST CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST MISSOURI. SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED TO BE LESS THAN AN INCH.

An earlier tornado warning issued for parts of Cole, Osage and Gasconade counties expired at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, as the storm moved east. To check additional advisories, use the following link.
