Carter Ward, president of the Missouri School Boards Association, was honored Friday with the Patriot Award by Maj. Gen. Stephen Danner, the adjutant general of the Missouri National Guard.

The Patriot Award is presented to employers showing support of employees who serve in the Missouri National Guard and Reserve.

Ward was selected for his contribution of hours and resources to ensure the success of organizational improvement of the Missouri National Guard through initiatives including the development of the Missouri National Guard suicide-prevention public service announcement and a variety of video messages highlighting command priorities.

He also demonstrated outstanding support to the Missouri National Guard by becoming one of the first employers to join the Show-Me Heroes Program - a program created to showcase Missouri businesses willing to hire veterans returning from the world's battlefields.
