Work looks to begin next month on the second phase of reconstruction on Lafayette Street.
The County Commission on Tuesday awarded Stockman Construction the contract for the work. Their bid of $979,925 was the low bid and came in 14.5 percent below the engineers' estimate on the project.
Along with new pavement, sidewalks and curb and gutter work, the project calls for traffic signals at Lafayette and McCarty streets and Lafayette and High streets. Those will be done in the last phase of work with the McCarty Street intersection coming first and then the High Street intersection.
