Carnahan seeks 3rd term as Mo. secretary of state

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Democrat Robin Carnahan plans to seek a third term as Missouri’s secretary of state. And Republican state Sen. Bill Stouffer intends to challenge her.

Stouffer announced his candidacy Friday. Carnahan spokesman Tony Wyche said later Friday that Carnahan is planning to run again in 2012.

Carnahan first was elected secretary of state in 2004. She lost a bid for U.S. Senate last year.

Stouffer also first won election to the state Senate in 2004. He lost a Republican primary last year for the 4th Congressional District.

Stouffer this year is sponsoring a proposed state constitutional amendment that would authorize mandatory photo identification for voters.

Carnahan has opposed photo ID requirements. She says Missouri has no problem with voters impersonating other people.

When are these people going to stop living off the taxpayer and get a job. I 'm not picking on Democrats, I feel the same way about the Blunt's on the Republican side. Seriously, public service should NOT be a CAREER. I think you should have 8 years to serve and then move over for someone else.

For anyone who works for an elected official, it is a relief not to have a change in administration. Every time we get someone new in the top job, there is a change to a large number of the rest of the staff as well. It's disruptive and unnerving, not knowing who might end up being your boss/supervisor - will that person be fair? Will your job duties get changed drastically? I can't speak for any other department, but ours works very well right now. We do a good job and are effective and efficient. The staff works well together. A major change means that we waste a lot of time training new people. Term limits are great if the elected official is not doing his/her job - but they are bad whecrin things are working well.

On a different note - what is up with that last paragraph? Did the writer intend to make it sound like Sec. Carnahan thinks it's okay to have people impersonate others? I know that it MEANS that this type of voter fraud is not a problem in Missouri, but that sentence is very poorly written!
