Democratic state Rep. Curls wins Mo. Senate seat

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Democratic state Rep. Kiki Curls has won a state Senate seat.

The Kansas City Star reports that unofficial but final vote totals show Curls received more than 83 percent of the vote in Tuesday's special election. She had faced Republican Nola Wood for the 9th District seat, which covers eastern Kansas City within Jackson County.

Curls will replace Yvonne Wilson, a Kansas City Democrat who retired last year. Curls will serve the rest of Wilson's term, which ends in 2012.

The governor now must call a special election to fill Curl's House seat.
