WARDSVILLE, Mo. - With an undefeated Tri-County Conference record on the line, the California Lady Pintos hit their stride in the second quarter and then survived a cold-shooting third quarter and held on for a 55-49 win over the Blair Oaks Lady Falcons to capture the conference title.
"Nothing was comfortable about it," California coach Bobby Sangster said after his team was up by eight points at the half and watched Blair Oaks cut the lead to three twice in the fourth quarter. "In that third quarter, we couldn't hit sand if we fell off a camel. It was rough, and we were getting good looks.
"Sometimes you go cold."
In the JV game, Blair Oaks improved to 16-2 with a 29-21 win.
