Ty Loethen of Helias will look to wrap up an undefeated season with a state title tonight.
Josh Scheuler of Helias won a 10-9 decision over Willard's Jessie Ruark to advance to the semi-finals.
Loethen (28-0) advanced to the 152-pound title match with a win by fall in 2:35 over Steeler Seaburn of Willard in Friday night’s semifinals in the Class 3 State Championships at Mizzou Arena.
“He was really physical, he took (Seaburn) out of his element,” Helias coach Travis Reinsch said.
Loethen, a senior, led 7-0 after one period before getting a takedown and the fall in the second. Loethen will meet senior Cole Reedy of Fort Zumwalt North (34-6) for the title.
“Ty is peaking at the right time,” Reinsch said.
Three other Crusaders dropped their semifinal matches Friday night.
At 103, Dylan Linsenbardt fell 4-0 to Jonathan Melton of Staley. After a scoreless first period, Melton got an escape to lead 1-0 heading into the third. Melton was able to work Linsenbardt onto his back for three points and the win.
“He just got caught in a bad situation,” Reinsch said.
Linsenbardt advanced to the semifinals with a 10-8 overtime win over Jared Edwards of St. Charles West on Friday afternoon. Edwards led 8-0 after one period. Linsenbardt got a reversal in the second before picking up six points in the third to tie it. He then got a takedown for the win.
