The Millbottom area will be the focus of plans and conversations March 2-4 as representatives from the federal and local governments host a charette and public meetings as part of the Greening America's Capitols program.

Preliminary meetings last week yielded good attendance and enthusiasm for the potential of this course, Melva Fast, assistant to the city administrator, told the Old Town Revitalization Company at its regular meeting Wednesday.

Several projects within the Old Town sector are near the Millbottom area, including the potential conference center, the eventual reuse of the St. Mary's Health Center building, and the bike-pedestrian bridge across the Missouri River that's under construction.

Old Town board member Jim Crabtree said he is intrigued by the potential of the Greening America's Capitols program. As one of five selected state capitols - the others being in Little Rock, Ark.; Boston, Mass.; Charleston, W.Va.; and Hartford, Conn. - Jefferson City's eventual priorities would be at the top of eligibility for future federal grants, he said.
