Half-cent sales tax renewal in works

As the Cole County Commission prepares to go back to voters later this year to get approval to renew the county half-cent sales tax, the list of projects that could be done with this money is being put together.

On Thursday, commissioners discussed with Cole County Public Works Director Larry Benz and Jefferson City Engineering Division Director Matt Morasch some projects that the city and county could do together.

Of the more than $22 million the tax could generate between 2012 and 2016, $5.5 million could be spent on joint projects.

It's not a new tax, it's a renewal on an existing tax. But I would sure like to see the money used for something other than replacing a perfectly good 4-way stop with a stupid roundabout. If they really want to improve the Westview area, put in some sidewalks and streetlights.
