Perspective: Snow in the rearview mirror

Thanks to MoDOT, city crews, small businesses, and citizens with shovels, we have vanquished (perhaps just tamed) the snow to the extent that the Senate was able to come back into session for a full week of work.

I tip my hat to everyone in central Missouri who worked to clear roads and sidewalks, and thank them for a job well done.

Last Saturday morning, I was honored to attend the Navy League Chili Cook-Off at the American Legion in Jefferson City. I enjoyed talking to many of you, and appreciate KWOS having me on the radio in between bites of chili.

This week, Rep. Bernskoetter and I attended a Home Builders Association evening event, and I am grateful for their invitation, as well as their insights about the industry and things that we can do to improve the mid-Missouri economy.

This week, I filed Senate Bill 250, which requires imprisoned sex offenders to complete all Department of Corrections treatment, education, and rehabilitation programs before they can be eligible for probation or conditional release. This is a common-sense bill that will improve public safety across the state.

Also this week, I had several meetings relating to SB 50.

Each of these meetings involved interested parties from both sides of the issue and all were productive. I particularly enjoyed discussions with constituents in Versailles on Tuesday night, and I greatly appreciate their support and warm welcome.

With each meeting, my resolve to get this issue to the floor for discussion by the whole Senate is strengthened.

Accordingly, I will continue to have discussions in the spirit of compromise and will continue to request: 1) a committee hearing; and 2) discussion on the floor by the entire Senate.

Please visit my website (www. senate.mo.gov/kehoe) for information about SB 50, as this information is intended to help citizens in the 6th District, and all across the state, better understand the energy challenges that Missouri will face in the very near future and the necessity for SB 50.

My next two coffee stops will be at McDonalds in Eldon, on Feb. 18 from 7-8 a.m., and at the Pioneer Restaurant in Versailles, on March 11, also from 7-8 a.m.

I am in this office to serve the constituents of Missouri's 6th State Senatorial District. Please contact us at (573) 751-2076 if my office or I can be of any assistance to you or if you have questions.
