BOSTON (AP) - Logan Couture scored on one of just 18 shots for San Jose as the surging Sharks beat the Boston Bruins 2-0 on Saturday.
Devin Setoguchi added an empty-net goal with 2.1 seconds remaining and Antti Niemi got his third shutout of the season. He got help from his defenders, who rescued wild rebounds before the Bruins could capitalize. Niemi hasn't lost in regulation in eight starts.
Ryane Clowe and Marc-Edouard Vlasic assisted on both goals for San Jose, which has won seven of eight.
Tim Thomas had 16 saves for the Bruins, who had won three straight. San Jose's 18 shots on goal were a season low.
Canadiens 2, Rangers 0
MONTREAL (AP) - Carey Price made 35 saves for his fifth shutout of the season, Scott Gomez scored late in the second period, and Montreal extended the New York Rangers' losing streak to four.
Price has nine career shutouts. He took the NHL lead with 26 wins as Montreal won its third in a row since the All-Star break. Price has started a league-high 46 games.
Gomez, a former Rangers forward, made it 1-0 with 1:26 left in the second with his seventh goal. Tomas Plekanec scored his 18th into an empty net with 37.4 seconds remaining.
New York's Martin Biron stopped 27 shots in his 14th start of the season in place of struggling goalie Henrik Lundqvist, but the Rangers' skid was stretched to 0-3-1.
The Canadiens were outshot 19-6 in the third period, but held on for the win.
Ducks 3, Avalanche 0
DENVER (AP) - Corey Perry scored three goals and Curtis McElhinney stopped 25 shots for his second NHL shutout, leading Anaheim over struggling Colorado.
Perry completed his second hat trick of the season by scoring an empty-net goal with 17.3 seconds remaining.
McElhinney bottled up the high-scoring Avalanche while filling in for All-Star Jonas Hiller, who was scratched due to fatigue. The Ducks have won eight of nine against Colorado.
Peter Budaj made 26 saves for the Avalanche, who have dropped three straight.
Flyers 3, Stars 1
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Andrej Meszaros and Darroll Powe each scored on long-distance wrist shots, and Brian Boucher stopped 30 shots to lead Philadelphia past Dallas.
Jeff Carter added his 25th goal for the Flyers, who increased their Atlantic Division lead over Pittsburgh to three points.
Brenden Morrow scored for the Pacific Division-leading Stars in the second period, his fifth goal in six games.
Kari Lehtonen stopped 29 shots and fell to 0-10-1 in 11 games against Philadelphia.
Sabres 6, Maple Leafs 2
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Drew Stafford scored twice and added an assist, Thomas Vanek had a goal and two assists, and Ryan Miller finished with 23 saves to lift Buffalo over Toronto.
Jason Pominville, Paul Gaustad and Tim Connolly also scored for the Sabres, who bounced back from a one-goal loss in Pittsburgh on Friday to improve to 10-4-1 in their past 15 games.
Miller made his 28th consecutive start for Buffalo, which won its seventh straight at home against Toronto.
Nikolai Kulemin and Francois Beauchemin scored, and rookie James Reimer allowed five goals on 30 shots before being yanked after two periods for the Maple Leafs, who had their two-game winning streak snapped.
Blue Jackets 4, Oilers 3
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - R.J. Umberger scored twice and assisted on both of Kristian Huselius' goals, including the game-winning tally with 4 minutes left, to lead Columbus past Edmonton.
With the Blue Jackets trailing 3-2 and 6:16 left, Umberger tied it with a nifty move and a snap shot. He then fed Huselius on a 2-on-1 break, with Huselius tucking a wrist shot inside the near post and past goalie Nikolai Khabibulin.
Magnus Paajarvi had a career-best two goals for the Oilers, who lost their fourth in a row - both goals coming on almost identical plays off assists from fellow rookie Linus Omark. Dustin Penner also scored.
Steve Mason was solid in goal for Columbus, allowing the Blue Jackets to come back from an early 2-0 deficit. He finished with 23 saves.
Islanders 5, Senators 3
UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) - Rob Schremp's second goal of the game broke a third-period tie and lifted the New York Islanders over Ottawa.
The teams split six goals in the first period, but Ottawa was shut down after that. Schremp made it 4-3 at 1:39 of the third with a power-play goal. Frans Nielsen sealed the win with a short-handed, empty-netter with less than 10 seconds to go.
Ottawa (17-28-8) is 1-11-4 in its last 16 games. Its only win in that span was against the Islanders on Jan. 13.
Matt Moulson and Michael Grabner also scored for the Islanders. Chris Neil, Mike Fisher, and Alex Kovalev all had first-period goals for Ottawa.
Senators goalie Brian Elliott was pulled after allowing three goals on 13 shots in the first period. He was replaced by Robin Lehner, who had an active second period, and finished with 23 saves.
Hurricanes 4, Thrashers 3, OT
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Erik Cole scored at 2:48 of overtime to give Carolina a win against Atlanta.
The Hurricanes moved into a tie with Atlanta for eighth place in the Eastern Conference with 58 points.
Carolina's Cam Ward stopped 34 shots. Atlanta counterpart Ondrej Pavelec made 33 saves.
Eric Staal, Brandon Sutter and Jiri Tlusty also scored for Carolina.
Niclas Bergfors, Brent Sopel and Zach Bogosian had goals for Atlanta.
Coyotes 1, Wild 0
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Taylor Pyatt ended Phoenix's long scoring drought early in the third period and Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 25 shots for his fourth shutout this season, helping the Coyotes beat Minnesota and end a five-game home losing streak.
Phoenix came out with an intensity missing the previous two games, peppering Niklas Backstrom with 31 shots in the first two periods. Backstrom was stellar at times, extending his scoreless streak to a franchise-record 157 minutes, 13 seconds before Pyatt finally broke through early in the third.
Sami Lepisto set up Pyatt's goal - Phoenix's first in 132 minutes - by keeping the puck in Minnesota's zone. Bryzgalov made it hold up for his 20th shutout in his 300th career game.
Predators 3, Red Wings 0
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Pekka Rinne stopped 35 shots and Nashville shut out Detroit.
Sergei Kostitsyn scored twice and captain Shea Weber added a goal for Nashville, which snapped a four-game losing streak.
Including a 3-0 home loss to Columbus on Friday, the Red Wings have been shut out in consecutive games.
Rinne was stellar in earning his third shutout of the season and 17th of his NHL career. After turning aside six Detroit shots in the first, he saw 12 shots in the second and 17 in the third.
Kings 4, Flames 3, SO
CALGARY, Alberta (AP) - Justin Williams had a goal and two assists and also scored the winning goal in the shootout and Los Angeles ended Calgary's six-game winning streak.
The victory helps the Kings pass Minnesota to move into eighth place in the Western Conference.
Calgary's seventh shooter was defenseman Jay Bouwmeester and after he hit the goal post, Kings coach Terry Murray turned to Williams, who snapped a shot past Miikka Kiprusoff to win it.
Rob Scuderi and Dustin Brown also scored for Los Angeles, which is 2-0-1 through its first three stops on a 10-game road trip.
Alex Tanguay had two goals and an assist to lead Calgary. Robyn Regehr also scored for the Flames.
Brendan Morrison had three assists, extending his point streak to seven games.
