Missouri man charged with making false murder report

DEERING, Mo. (AP) - A southeast Missouri man who claimed to have murdered his family has been charged with other crimes, but police say there was no murder.

Investigators say the Pemiscot County man drank an unknown amount of whiskey Thursday before breaking into a home in Deering. A woman called the Sheriff's Office and said a man broke into her home and told her husband he had killed his family.

Pemiscot County Sheriff Tommy Greenwell says deputies arrived at the home and found two people standing on the porch, including one covered in blood.

Officers found a vehicle's window broken out at the caller's home. Greenwell says the suspect broke the window with his hand before entering the home.

The man was taken to a hospital and then to jail. Charges are pending.
