Inspiration is passed on from mentors to young students to people in need and back again at The Salvation Army Center of Hope.
Maj. Katrina Mathews offers high expectations and room to blossom for Veronica Thomas and Tiwan Lewis, who joined the emergency services staff this fall.
The Lincoln University graduates in turn share encouragement and support with clients seeking food or energy assistance.

Major Matthews is a great person to work with...he has the hearts of the people in mind. He's compassionate about his work with The Salvation Army...the only one, so far, I've seen with such a heart for helping the unfortunate.

Sorry bndyvcky, but that Major has a heart for no one but himself! He only wants recognition for him and won't let anyone else take credit when they deserve it. He may have you snowed right now but you just wait, you'll do something to upset him and you won't think he's so good anymore. He thinks he's God or as close as you can be, but he doesn't care about the people in the shelter or anyone who comes in for services unless they have something to benefit him. I've seen him yell at a man because he was dirty. He told him he couldn't eat at the shelter cafeteria. The poor man had just asked if he could take a shower and was told by the lady up front he could. He left and guess what, he never went back - I know because that man was me! I had been homeless for awhile, lost everything due to job loss then finally found a job. I used to go to the shelter and eat and visit with the old director but after that lady was fired (because she didn't agree with him) things took a nose dive. I started my own business again and am doing well now. I will NEVER donate to them or have anything good to say about the Major because I saw him do too many bad and wrong things and then say someone else did them but when good things happened he always took the credit. He does NOT have a heart for anyone but himself.
