Former pastor sentenced for defrauding church

ST. LOUIS (AP) - A former suburban St. Louis pastor has been sentenced to eight months in prison for a loan scheme that defrauded members of his congregation of more than $100,000.

The sentencing hearing was Friday in U.S. District Court for 63-year-old Danny O'Guin. He pleaded guilty in November to one count of mail fraud.

O'Guin was pastor at the Parker Road Baptist Church in Florissant. Federal prosecutors say that from April 2006 through March 2009 he exploited his position to church members who felt compelled to agree to the loans despite reservations.

O'Guin must pay restitution.

Authorities say the exact amount hasn't been determined.
