Children found unharmed

Father arrested after five Eldon children reported missing

Staff and wire reports

ELDON — Miller County Sheriff Bill Abbott canceled an Amber Alert on Friday night after five children reportedly taken from their rural Eldon home early Friday morning were found unharmed.

Abbott said the children’s father, Michael Minor, 42 — who does not have legal custody — was apprehended.

The sheriff earlier described Minor as a “person of interest” in the children’s disappearance.

Neither Abbott nor the website, www.amberalert.com, provided any details of the children’s disappearance, although the website had provided some physical and clothing descriptions.

The children included one boy, 2, and four girls, ages 4, 6, 8 and 10.

The original Amber Alert said Minor might have been headed toward Kansas City or Liberty, or might have been returning to Miller County along U.S. 50.

The cancellation notice gave no details of how Minor was stopped, although Abbott reported the children “were located with him.”

This is an interesting story. The man obviously did not harm the children so he appears to not be a threat to them. I wonder why he felt that he had to kidnap them. Unfair treatment from the courts, or not enough money to fight for them, or past criminal record, or some other reason? I am curious as to what unfolds in future news stories. He certainly did not take the correct actions in trying to get his children, assuming that they are his children. I hope that all the facts are accurately reported by the news concerning both he and the mother. It is unfortunate for a situation like this to happen and the cost to the taxpayer to search for the children had to be enormous. I hope this story has a happy ending.
