Local Guard unit on storm duty
Thursday, February 3, 2011
Where inlaid snow is too thick for civilian emergency vehicles to get through to citizens in need, the Missouri National Guard found volunteers willing to drive their heavy equipment to create that access.
In central Missouri, guardsmen have been sent to mission in Camden and Gasconade counties, which requested the assistance through the State Emergency Management Agency protocol, said Lt. Col. Jeffrey Sloan.
More than 600 soldiers and airmen across the state volunteered for the duty, including members of units based in Jefferson City and Centertown.
