Shelves stocked again at Jefferson City grocery stores

Jefferson City's grocery stores are digging out like everyone else, but say they haven't had big problems keeping their shelves stocked.

"The shelves are mostly stocked," Schnuck's manager John Marquart said Wednesday morning. "We're having problems with some supplies, but we're mostly in good shape."

The delivery of products was temporarily stalled with the closing of Interstate 70 on Tuesday, he said. But now that the highway is back open, suppliers should be able to make their way to the store, he said.

Some staples, like bread, are running low, he said, although the store does have some varieties and also bakes their own specialty bread.

"We will be totally stocked tomorrow (Thursday) morning," he said.

He said business wasn't back to normal, but many people are already out and about. "You'd be surprised," he said. "We have quite a few" customers Wednesday morning.

Hy-Vee also had deliveries briefly interrupted, but says they're back in business.

"We got it all scooped out; we're taking care of the customers here," said assistant manager Greg Swink. "Things are pretty much business as usual."

At Save-a-Lot, 1228 E. McCarty St., manager Joe Redel said the store is operating under normal hours and that customers were starting to return early Wednesday. He said the store hasn't had problems keeping items stocked.
