City Gives Update on Storm Response
Thursday, February 3, 2011
The City of Jefferson and Cole County ceased operation of its Emergency Operations Center this morning. The center had been activated since Feb. 1 to provide city and county officials with an opportunity to share timely information during the inclement weather.
The City of Jefferson Community Development Department has the following updates:
Streets
City residential streets have been made passable. Crews will continue to work in the
residential areas widening where possible to minimize the impact to parking and driveway access.
Alleys
Now that streets are passable, crews will begin clearing alleys.
Downtown Sidewalks
Downtown sidewalks continue to be cleared. Snow hauling operations to clear parking lanes in the downtown business district will begin Friday, Feb. 4. Expect intermittent street closures during this operation.
Downtown Parking
The municipal parking garage on Madison Street remains open and fully operational.
Ample parking is available for those conducting business downtown.
Sidewalks
Property owners are required to clear the sidewalks adjacent to their properties as soon as possible. This is especially important near schools and high-pedestrian traffic areas.
Public Transportation
JeffTran buses and HandiWheels service are running on their regularly scheduled routes. Bus shelters will be cleared as soon as possible. For questions call 634-6477.
Airport
The Jefferson City Memorial Airport will open for flight operations late afternoon on Thursday, Feb. 3. Snow removal operations are continuing.
Trash Service
Normal service routes resumed Thursday, Feb. 3. Tuesday, Feb. 1 and Wednesday,
Feb. 2 routes missed will be picked up on their regularly scheduled pick-up days (Tuesday, Feb. 8 and Wednesday, Feb. 9). Any extra trash should be placed adjacent to the cart. Please refer to the Allied Waste website for any additional information at www.alliedwasteservicesjeffersoncitymo.com. Any carts buried or blocked by snow will not be picked up.

A friend of mine said she saw the city's fleet of dump trucks and loaders cleaning the streets and sidewalks around the City Hall campus this morning while the uptown area was still snowed in.
Wouldn't you think they would want to have to uptown commercial district cleared first?

I just don't understand why, on a street that has no parking on one side, did the city plow all the snow all over the parked cars on the side that allows parking instead of pushing to the side that doesn't allow parking. I guess they city workers figure if the have to be out in this mess plowing; they are going to make residents stand out there and dig cars out just for the hell of it!!!!!!

By not clearing the metered spaces, this ensures the city will continue to make money off downtown workers and customers as they have to pay to park in the garage, and when there is snow on the ground like this the meter maids can't get out and give tickets. Pretty slick move there JC govt. I usually pay the meters outside my buidling rather than walk two blocks from either my free garage or the pay one, both on madison.
