Missouri woman killed in crash on icy road

ROLLA, Mo. (AP) - The Missouri Highway Patrol says a female driver was killed when her SUV went out of control and collided with a Patrol vehicle on an icy road.

The crash happened around 5:20 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. 63 about 12 miles south of Rolla.

The patrol says 55-year-old Karen Chambers, of Licking, was northbound when she lost control of the vehicle on the snow- and ice-covered highway and crossed the center line. Her SUV collided head-on with a southbound Ford Crown Victoria driven by a 43-year-old Patrol sergeant.

The sergeant was taken to Phelps County Regional Medical Center with what the patrol described as moderate injuries.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts. It was the lone fatality reported by the Highway Patrol on Tuesday in Missouri.
