Interstate 70 closed across Missouri

UPDATE:MoDOT has closed Interstate 70 across Missouri because of impassable whiteout conditions caused by heavy snowfall and blowing snow.

Earlier coverage:

The Missouri Department of Transportation has closed Interstate 70 in three central counties because of whiteout conditions.

The agency announced the closing in Boone, Cooper and Callaway counties just before 2 p.m. Tuesday and says it's not known when the interstate will reopen.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol joined MoDOT in advising people not to travel as blizzard conditions hit much of the state. MoDOT said some parts of Missouri had received up to a foot of snow by early Tuesday afternoon, with more accumulation expected.

For those who do have to travel, MoDOT suggests checking its online Traveler Information Map showing conditions and closings on major highways.
