DNC decision disappoints St. Louis

ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis leaders say they're disappointed the city won't get the 2012 Democratic National Convention, but proud of the city's effort.

A Democratic official said Tuesday the party will hold its 2012 presidential convention in Charlotte, N.C. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because the announcement was not intended to be made public until later Tuesday. St. Louis, Minneapolis and Cleveland were the other finalists.

Jeff Rainford, chief of staff for St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay, said St. Louis put together a strong effort and was clearly the second choice. But Rainford said the decision came down to electoral politics and the Democrats wanted a site in the South.

Rainford says St. Louis will try again to lure the Democrats in 2016.
