New Year's Eve events in Mid-Missouri

Those looking to celebrate the New Year Saturday night have a few options in Mid-Missouri.

First Night in Columbia is returning to celebrate the New Year in The District, complete with fireworks at midnight. The event starts at 4 p.m. Saturday and tickets are available for $8 in advance or $10 at the door. Children age 7 and under are allowed in free.

Several aspects of the festival are offered at no price to attendees including exhibits at the Columbia Art League Gallery, a "Create and Celebrate" children's art area at the Calvary Episcopal Church and Fireworks starting at 9:30 p.m. at the Boone County Courthouse square.

The festival will feature a variety of bands and performers, as well as spotlight local artists. The celebration also will include a 5K run/walk beginning at 4 p.m., with all performances beginning at 7 p.m.

And in Jefferson City, the Munichburg Tavern is hosting a Ring in The New Year event with a special menu, live music and a champagne toast at midnight. West of New York, a duo from Mid-Missouri, will be playing from 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.

The Truman Hotel will host a dinner at its in-house restaurant, Bingham's. The restaurant will offer dinner specials and host special guest pianist Mike Michelson.

The Capital Ritz Dance Studio and Banquet Center also is hosting a New Year's Eve dinner and dance from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tickets cost $32.50 for the event, which features DJ "Babe" Gross, a buffet dinner, party favors and a champagne toast.
