Your Opinion: Young professional endorses Transformation
Thursday, December 29, 2011
I returned to Jefferson City after my recent graduation from the University of Missouri to find that most of my friends had left, and I needed to find a place where I could meet new people and form new friendships.
Jefferson City wasn’t my first choice in my list of post-college opportunities, but it ended up being the best professional opportunity I had at the time, so I moved home — to my parent’s house! Because Jefferson City was where I had grown up, I was aware of all the less-than-exciting things to do in this town! However, being the optimistic person I am, I was going to go looking for new adventures!
That’s when I got involved in Rotaract and hYPe! If it wasn’t for these fabulous young professional groups in town, I’d probably be traveling much more often to visit my friends and stimulate their economy instead. It was through hYPe that I became more involved in the Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce and learned about the Transformation Action committee. I jumped in and became a part of the Retail Action committee.
My interaction with the retail group was exciting because I was able to brainstorm ideas about how to market Jefferson City and bring in retail stores, for example, that I would typically drive at least 30 miles to shop. All of my ideas and participation directly related to what would have made me more excited to return to Jefferson City.
These opportunities for involvement have contributed to my enjoyment and success in Jefferson City, but I think that Jefferson City residents can do more. I encourage all of you to learn as much as you can about Transformation because it will have an unbelievable impact on Jefferson City — keeping and bringing young professionals to help this community thrive!
Transformation is really about a small investment in our quality of life here in Jefferson City. It’s about meeting the future head on and continuing to make this a better place to live. I want to see more young professionals return here and continue to call Jefferson City home. It’s also about our children and our children’s children.
Please think about supporting Transformation — you can make a positive difference in the Jefferson City community that you’ve loved for so many years!
