Rush to pay taxes begins at county collector's office

Last Friday, Cole County Collector Larry Vincent said his office was behind in overall property tax collections compared to last year.

However, Vincent said there were lines of people paying their bills most of the day on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“I assume it will remain that way through the rest of the week,” he said.

Vincent’s office is going to be open from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday in order to allow those last minute taxpayers to get their payment in.
