Real estate broker tapped for SE Missouri university board

A Missouri real estate broker has been named to the governing board for Southeast Missouri State University.

Gov. Jay Nixon on Friday appointed Thomas M. Meyer to the Cape Girardeau university's board of regents. Meyer, a Democrat, is the owner of a realty company. He graduated from Southeast Missouri State University and has served as the president of the school's alumni association.

The appointment requires Senate confirmation when lawmakers return to the state Capitol next month. Meyer's term on the board would end in 2018.
