Salaries released for newly appointed city staff

The city announced Tuesday the appointments to two leadership positions and both come with a salary to match.

Newly appointed Jefferson City Public Works Director Roger Schwartze, who will begin his duties Jan. 3, 2012, will receive a salary of $99,000, just slightly higher than what he received as an employee of the Missouri Department of Transportation.

State records show Schwartze received a salary of $98,424 in 2010. He retired in early 2011, receiving a partial salary of $53,470.

As for newly appointed City Administrator Nathan Nickolaus, his new salary will be $120,000, said Gail Strope, director of human resources. That figure is a decrease from previous City Administrator Steve Rasmussen’s salary, which was $135,000 per year. Nickolaus has been earning $108,000 for performing both jobs in the interim.

Too much money for a small town. Should of bid the jobs out at $75K with incentives; probably would have had numerous applications. Schwartze gets more money for overseeing a small town operation vice overseeing a larger operation for the state. Seems the inmates are running the asylum.
