RUSSELLVILLE - Christmas came early for the Russellville boys basketball team, as the Indians picked up their first win of the season just three days before the holiday.

The Indians won a defensive slugfest with the Calvary Lutheran Lions on Thursday night, as Russellville posted a 39-30 victory in front of its home crowd.

"We really got after it (defensively)," Russellville interim head coach Russ Foster said. "That was the key to the game. We threw a shutout for five minutes, and we were excited about that."

The Indians weren't the only team to clamp down in those first five minutes, as the teams battled to a scoreless tie. At that point, Russellville was 0-of-9 from the field with two turnovers, while Calvary was 0-of-2 with eight turnovers.
