Former worker in circuit clerk’s office indicted

A former supervisor of the Cole County Circuit Clerk’s criminal division office was indicted this week on a felony stealing charge.

The indictment against Melissa Hart, 34, of 7012 Bates Road, was issued this week.

Boone County Prosecutor Dan Knight is listed as the special prosecutor in this case.

The investigators’ probable cause statement was withheld after the grand jury indictment.

The charging document shows Hart is believed to have appropriated at least $500 of property between July 1, 2010, and July 1, 2011.

Court officials said Hart was terminated from her position on July 28.

They added that no other persons involved with the running of the office were being investigated in connection with the case.
