Nixon names new Mo. homeland security coordinator

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has selected a new state homeland security coordinator.

Nixon said Wednesday that Chris Pickering, of California, Mo., would replace Paul Fennewald, who has held the position since November 2005 and is retiring. The homeland security coordinator reports to the director of the Public Safety Department and works with advisory and regional councils. The position was created in September 2001.

Pickering previously was the inspector general for the Missouri Department of Corrections. He also was the chief investigator for the public safety division in the attorney general's office and worked as a police officer in Missouri and Kansas.
