Missouri utility worker dies in 85-foot fall

LABADIE, Mo. (AP) — Authorities in eastern Missouri say an electric company employee died after falling 85 feet from a platform at a power plant.

Ameren Missouri identified the worker as 32-year-old Catherine Berliner, of Hermann.

KSDK-TV reports (http://on.ksdk.com/rQLCaC) the accident happened around 9:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Ameren Electric Plant near Labadie, about 35 miles west of St. Louis.

The Franklin County sheriff's office says Berliner was performing maintenance on a boiler when a power tool she was using struck her on the head, knocking her off the platform.

Ameren describes Berliner as a five-year employee of the plant who was certified in repair.
