Cole Co. Grand Jury indicts one in Sept. killing

The Cole County Grand Jury has indicted a Eugene man on one count of second-degree murder in connection with a shooting that occurred Sept. 2.

Court documents show Drew Puckett, 22, is accused of killing Caleb Crabtree, 28.

The probable cause statement was suppressed after the grand jury proceedings which occurred this week so there is no information as to what may have triggered the shooting.

Earlier reports indicated the Cole County Sheriff’s Department was called to Puckett’s address, 16803 Missouri 17, on Sept. 2, where the shooting occurred.

Crabtree was found dead at the scene.

Court records indicate that Crabtree had listed Puckett’s address as his home address during earlier court proceedings.

Drew will be vindicated. I say the first judge that looks at this case dismisses it.

Loaded gun in the front yard NOT EQUAL to self-defense last time I checked the law.

To claim self defense and be acquitted from legal responsibility for murder, Mr. Puckett has to have been in imminent danger of lethal harm. Verbal threats do not constitute imminent danger, to be in imminent danger one has to reasonably believe he is actually about to be killed. From what I understand Mr. Puckett left the scene in police cruiser, not an ambulance. It will be very difficult for the self defense claim to stick if Mr. Puckett did not require significant medical attention after the incident.
