Charges in Rocky Mount shooting

A Morgan County man was charged Saturday with first-degree assault and armed criminal action, according to court records posted Monday on Case.net, the statewide courts reporting system.

Sheriff Jim Petty also identified the man Monday as Jamie Rae Wixson, 53, Rocky Mount.

He was being held on $100,000 bond.

He was arrested in connection with a shooting early Saturday at his home - the shooting led to a chase that began in Eldon and ended early Saturday in Cole County.

Morgan County authorities got a call about 3:30 a.m. Saturday of a domestic dispute between a man and woman, who were visiting a residence in the Rocky Mount area.

Another male subject attempted to defend the female and was struck several times by the shooting victim, identified as David Stanley, 40.

Officials said Wixson told Stanley to leave the home, but Stanley refused.

Wixson then shot Stanley several times in the lower abdomen and leg areas.

When the deputies arrived at Wixson's home, they were told that Stanley already had driven away and a woman was with him.

They asked area law agencies to stop Stanley's car.

An Eldon police officer began pursuing the car on eastbound U.S. 54, and Cole County deputies joined the chase about 3:45 a.m. Saturday.

Spike strips were placed across the highway, and the car was stopped near the Route CC intersection with U.S. 54.

Stanley reportedly was treated and released from a Jefferson City hospital.

No charges have been filed against him in the case, according to a Case.net search.
