Sheriff Greg White said the victim, Francisco Navarro, 26, was living here legally after coming to this country from Mexico.

White on Monday said it appeared Navarro was shot in the chest with a 9 mm pistol after a confrontation around 9:37 p.m. Sunday in a mobile home park at 5101 Business 50 West.

“The victim had gotten out of a truck to help the driver of the truck who was being assaulted by the driver in the suspect vehicle,” White said. “It appears this was over a complaint on how loud the muffler was on the truck and how the driver of the truck had been driving his vehicle.”

White said the passenger in the suspect’s vehicle got out as Navarro was trying to get the drivers separated. The passenger in the suspect’s vehicle pulled out his weapon and shot Navarro, White said.
