Adkins coordinating donations for Huffman family

After Thursday's announcement that Lance Cpl. Tyler Huffman and his family have accepted the offer of a new house near Scott Station Road, some Mid-Missourians have asked how they can support that effort.

Local builder Joe Twehous and his wife, Kay, made the offer of a building site on Nov. 10, saying their goal is to provide Huffman with a safe, accessible home for the family, with as little cost to them as possible.

Huffman, a Fulton native, was paralyzed after he was shot in the chest Dec. 3, 2010, by an enemy sniper, while Huffman was serving in Afghanistan.

Retired high school coach Pete Adkins chairs the "Operation Tyler" effort to assist the Huffmans.

For more information about donations or other ways to help, Adkins said Saturday, people should call him at (573) 635-5651, or send mail to 1435 Satinwood Drive, Jefferson City, MO 65109.
