KC man gets nearly 80 years for violent spree

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - A Kansas City man will spend more than 75 years in prison for killing two people during a crime rampage in which he also shot and wounded a police officer.

Frederick D. Darrington Jr. was sentenced Friday for the crimes, which occurred between March and June in 2007.

Darrington shot and killed Kevin Sherrills in March 2007 and Andre Taylor three months later. He also committed a home invasion robbery, stole a car and ran over two people.

In June 2007, he shot police officer Lee Malek, who survived but was forced to retire.

Darrington was sentenced to 44 years for 16 felony charges from March to June 2007. He's already facing a 25-year federal sentence for armed carjacking and serving a 10-year sentence from Wyandotte County for aggravated robbery.
