Jason Rackers, 12, places a wreath on the grave of Harold Lauf during a ceremony Thursday morning at St. Stanislaus in Wardsville. Seventh graders at the parish elementary school collected money to purchase 60 wreaths for the veterans buried in the church’s cemetery.
Wreaths with bright red bows adorn the graves of the veterans buried in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Wardsville.
The 19 seventh-graders, teachers and parish members at St. Stanislaus school and church rallied together since the start of December to bring the honor to the area’s veterans.
The weekend of Dec. 3-4, a number of seventh-grade students like Evan Rackers, spoke to the congregation about the program that is similar to the Wreaths for Heroes program at the National Cemetery in Jefferson City.
