Two middle school students accused in sale of marijuana
Thursday, December 15, 2011
Two students at Lewis and Clark Middle School were accused of buying and selling marijuana from one another Tuesday morning and were taken to the Prenger Juvenile Attention Center.
A sixth-grade female student was seen selling marijuana to an eighth-grade female student, officials with the Jefferson City School District said. The incident was witnessed by another student who reported it to school administrators.
The two students were brought in to talk with the principal. The parents of the two students were contacted, and the students were taken to Prenger.
According to school policy, a student who sells an illicit substance could get up to 10 days suspension and be recommended to the superintendent for further discipline. A purchaser could also get up to 10 days of suspension.

"Up to 10 days suspension"??? Perhaps if they were kicked out for a semester like they used to be it would make them think twice before doing it again.

Nice long Christmas Break! Just what these students wanted!

It's true...suspensions are only a reward, not a punishment.

Why not make it a learning experience? Keep the kid in school and make him do a research report on "Why Kids Should not Deal Marijuana in School". Make him present his findings to the School Board at their next meeting.
That would be way more punishment and learning than to give him a two-week extension to Christmas Break.
No wonder our schools are in such poor shape. Educators do not think creatively and take the opportunity to help students LEARN.

There are still many teachers who want to teach. Seriously, have you ever been to a parent/teacher meeting?? Most parents here won't even hear of actually teaching of facts, common sense or morality. And creativity? You've done as much as to propose Satanism. Try it and see.

I can see the bumper stickers now "Proud parent of a drug dealer at Lewis and Clark Middle School" and "Proud parent of a narc at Lewis and Clark Middle School." Seriously, lots of extra school projects like JCLifer recommended. Perhaps a project every two months for the remainder of the school year; one on marijuana, one on the value of an education, one of the costs of having a criminal record (yes, I know their reocrd will be expunged at 18).
