Mo. ski area operator hoping for colder temps

WESTON, Mo. (AP) - Operators of western Missouri's only ski area are counting on a break from this week's unseasonably warm weather to open on schedule.

Snow Creek is located near Weston in Platte County, about 25 miles north of Kansas City. Its 26th season is scheduled to begin Saturday.

Owner Dave Grenier told KSHB-TV (http://bit.ly/uCnIQI) that snow-making equipment should be able to churn out sufficient amounts of snow if the temperature dips below freezing by Thursday. Temperatures were heading for the low to mid-60s Wednesday, with overnight lows forecast in the mid-30s and a high Thursday near 39.

Grenier says he expects 500 to 1,000 visitors for opening day and hopes to have the slopes covered with one to four feet of man-made snow.
