Former deputy moved to Cole County Jail

The Salem man accused of killing two people in Dent County on Saturday and then leading authorities on a high-speed chase before being shot at Capital Plaza Hotel was released from University Hospital in Columbia on Wednesday and taken to the Cole County Jail.

Marvin Rice, 44, was to be held for Dent County where he faces two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Annette Durham and Steven Strotkamp.

Rice is also charged in Cole County with assault on a law officer and armed criminal action in connection with the shootout.

Officials with the Missouri Highway Patrol, the lead agency in this investigation, said they have completed their examination of Rice’s vehicle and are now concentrating on finishing any interviews they need to do. They said it could be weeks before their final reports are done.
