Kinloch police chief placed on leave

KINLOCH, Mo. (AP) - The police chief of Kinloch is on unpaid administrative leave, but officials in the embattled St. Louis County community aren't saying why.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/tOgEz3) reports that chief John Bridges was escorted from City Hall on Monday. City Manager Eric Mason declined to give a reason, calling it a personnel matter.

Bridges has been chief for about five months since the retirement of Michael Morris.

Kinloch has a population of about 300. In November, former Mayor Keith Conway was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison for using city funds to pay for vacation travel and personal expenses. He was also ordered to repay $62,000. He pleaded guilty in August to wire fraud, theft from a federal program and witness tampering, and resigned following the guilty plea.
