Man, woman charged in heroin bust

Charges were filed Wednesday against a man and a woman from Jefferson City who were arrested Tuesday after a narcotics search warrant was served at their residence.

According to court records, Benjamin Nilges, 29, and his girlfriend, Haley Johnson, 20, both of 1421 E. Miller St., were each charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of the controlled substances Suboxone and Kolonopin, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statements show that upon entering the residence, officers found Nilges and Johnson sitting on a couch in the living room with several controlled substances lying in front of them on a coffee table.

A 1-week-old baby found at the residence was turned over to the state's Family Services Division.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Nilges was being held in the Cole County Jail without bond, and Johnson was being held on $100,000 bond.
