Council defers JCMG sidewalk requirement

The City Council approved a request from the Jefferson City Medical Group to defer a requirement for new sidewalks and will begin looking at the cost of quickly putting in a greenway system connector in the area instead.

At the council meeting Tuesday, a public hearing was held on an appeal request by JCMG to defer the new sidewalk requirement that went with plans for facility and parking expansion. The original deferment request was denied by the director of Planning and Protective Services.

Janice McMillan, director of Planning and Protective Services, said the request was denied in part because the existing greenway system, which goes through a portion of JCMG property, is not an adequate alternative to a pedestrian way.
