Joplin minister to speak at prayer breakfast

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - A minister from Joplin will speak at the annual Missouri Governor's Prayer Breakfast next month.

The breakfast is Jan. 5 at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City. Proceeds from the event go to the Governor's Student Leadership Forum on Faith and Values.

The Rev. Randy Gariss, who is the preaching minister at Joplin's College Heights Christian Church, will participate in the breakfast. He presided at the memorial service at Missouri Southern State University for victims of a deadly May tornado.

Gariss has been preaching minister at College Heights Christian Church for 30 years.
