Missing Mo. police dog recovered

NORTH KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - A police dog that ran off after jumping out of a patrol car has been found in northwestern Missouri.

The young Belgian Malinois (MAL'-ihn-wah), named Ty, belongs to the North Kansas City Police Department.

Ty ran away around 4 a.m. Saturday when the officer he works with was investigating a suspicious vehicle and left a door on the patrol car slightly open. WDAF-TV reports (http://bit.ly/t3HJm7 ) a security guard at North Kansas City's water plant spotted the dog around 12:30 a.m. Monday, less than a mile from where he had last been seen.

Ty was checked by a veterinarian and given a clean bill of health.

North Kansas City police say the 22-month-old dog has been with the department since June and cost about $7,500. He's still considered a rookie.
