Holts Summit man charged

A Holts Summit man arrested Wednesday night in Maries County was formally charged Thursday with driving while intoxicated, driving while revoked and resisting arrest.

Maries County sheriff's deputies stopped Edward G. Pecher III, 48, after investigating a report of an intoxicated driver traveling down Ball Park Road just outside of Vienna.

As deputies were traveling behind the suspect's vehicle, it nearly struck a bridge on the wrong side of the roadway, the sheriff's department reported in a news release.

While officers attempted to arrest Pecher, he allegedly resisted, and they later used pepper spray to subdue him.

Pecher was charged as a chronic DWI offender. The sheriff's department reports he has pleaded guilty to earlier driving offenses in Boone, Callaway and Cole counties.
